JAMES N. STANSELL JR.
CHAIRMAN EMERITUS & CULTURE CHAMPION
James "Jimmy" Stansell Jr. is a living part of Stansell Electric's history and the son of company founder James N. Stansell Sr. His connection to the company goes back even further than his 60-year tenure, starting as a high school student working summers as a material expediter and helper on a service truck. After earning his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1964 and a Certificate in
Highway Traffic Engineering from Yale in 1965, he spent a year as an Assistant Traffic Engineer with the Louisville/Jefferson County Traffic Engineering Department before joining Stansell Electric full time in June 1966. He has been here ever since, serving as Estimator, Project Manager, President, Chairman, and now Chairman Emeritus and Culture Champion.
Today, Jimmy's role is exactly what the title says: champion the culture. He personally calls every employee on their birthday and writes a personal letter to each one on their work anniversary. He lights up on job site visits and believes that encouraging people and recognizing a job well done is some of the most important work he can do.
Over the course of his career, Jimmy has served as Past President of both the Tennessee Road Builders Association and the Associated Builders and Contractors Association of Middle Tennessee, and was recognized with the Rodgers/Bell Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from TRBA. He served on the board of Cumberland Heights Treatment Center for 25 years and has been active with the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly. Outside of work, he enjoys travel, stays active with his walking group at Radnor Lake, and is a proud participant in the Glee Club, Play Readers, and physical activities at The Heritage of Brentwood.
